Steps to Becoming a Volunteer with Northwest ISD
Step 1: Fill out the district volunteer application at https://apps.raptortech.com/Apply/MzUzOmVuLVVT
Every volunteer must pass a background check through NISD. (This applies to everyone, even if you hold a top secret clearance or have completed a background check elsewhere.) Please note that a background check can take up to 72 hours to be processed and approved so therefore cannot be done on the spot at the campus on the day you are scheduled to volunteer. Background checks must also be completed annually to ensure the district has updated information on the volunteers in the schools.
Step 2: Complete the Volunteer 101 Orientation (and the quiz at the end) This is a new requirement from the school district starting in 2023. https://sites.google.com/nisdtx.org/samplevipssite/home?authuser=0
Step 3: Head over to Northwest Band BoosterHub via the boosterhub app or visit the band website see all of our volunteer opportunities! (https://app.boosterhub.com/volunteer)
Volunteer positions that will be needed all marching season:
Dinner Crew : Dinner crew will need to report to the band hall by 3:30 pm for football games. The dinner crew is responsible for feeding the kids before football games or during competitions. You will need to park in the east entrance parking lot and check in the front office prior to coming to the band hall. On football days, the dinner crew sets up in the PAC Commons. Dinner crew will assist in setting up the tables, getting utensils, plates and napkins from the Booster cabinet prior to the arrival of food at 4pm. Prior to dinner service, four meals need to be prepared and set aside for the bus drivers. Dinner plates also need to be prepared and set aside for front ensemble and percussion prior to allowing the rest of the band to line up. The meal coordinator will provide a list of these students. If there are meals left over after every student has eaten then the truck driver, trailer driver and food volunteers are offered a meal first then students can be called for seconds. After dinner the dinner crew will assist in breaking down and cleaning the service area. The students are responsible for cleaning their area and their trash. Dinner crew has the authority to require students to return to clean up their area if necessary. Make sure you are only serving kids who are wearing their show shirt or warm weather uniform shirt. Non band kids have attempted to sneak through the line in the past.
Bus Chaperones: Bus chaperones will need to report to the band hall by 4:45pm. Bus chaperones will assist the directors with monitoring students on the bus. If food is being provided for bus drivers, please ensure that food is delivered to the driver. Each corresponding bus driver meal will be on the ledge by the band door exit. On "away" games, each bus chaperone will need to obtain the bag of snacks for their bus from the Food Coordinator which will be dispersed on the return trip home. A trash bag will also be provided for garbage collection. The students are responsible for throwing out their trash when exiting the bus after returning to NISD every evening. The bus chaperone will need to ensure bus is clean and all personal items are off when returning to the school after the event. There is a lost and found section in the band hall for items which were left on the bus. Important items (cell phones, wallets, keys...) can be given to any drum major. If items remain on the bus or there is excessive trash, chaperones have the authority to require students to return to the bus for cleanup. In addition to riding the bus to and from the game, the chaperone might be requested to assist with handing out and collecting plumes or moving equipment on the field for performance. *See Podium/Prop/Pit Crew instructions below for direction.
Pit Crew: Pit Crew will help push all equipment (speakers, front ensemble instruments..) on and off the field. They must report to the truck or percussion area during the middle of the 2nd quarter or when the band leaves the stands, whichever comes first, to start moving equipment. Percussion students and/or the Percussion Band Director will let you know what needs to be pushed and where it needs to be placed. Pit Crew will need to stay at the truck after the show to help students reload the equipment back on the truck. On occasional windy days, the Pit Crew might be needed to sit on the props during the performance. You will be informed beforehand if necessary.
Prop Crew: 6 Prop Crew will report to the truck or percussion area during the middle of the second quarter or when the band leaves the stands, whichever comes first. Prop Crew will assist in unloading props from the small trailer and truck at football games and competition. Assistance assembling props might be required. Prop Crew will need to stay at the sidelines or truck during the show to help students reload the props on the truck/small trailer afterwards. On occasional windy days, the Prop Crew might be needed to sit on the props during the performance. You will be informed beforehand if necessary. Several of the props are very heavy as such heavy lifting might be required.
Podium Crew: 3 Podium Crew will report to the sidelines by the podiums when the band leaves the stands. Podium Crew will assist the Drum Majors by moving each podium to the required area on the field before the start of the show. Drum Majors will let you know where to place the podium on the field. After the show, Podium Crew will move the podium back to the sidelines.
Sideline passes are needed for Pit, Prop, Podium and Bus Chaperones. You can pick these up from the Volunteer Coordinator during the band’s mealtime or during first quarter at the game.
Concession:
We get two concession dates every season. This is one of the biggest money-makers for the Booster Club! Notification will be sent out when we find out which days this season we will be running the NISD stadium concession stand.
(2024-2025 Marching Season Dates: September 6, 2024 Football Senior Night and September 13, 2024 Homecoming)
Children over 13 are allowed to be in concessions with their parents. Younger children can be runners for those in the window by fetching drinks, chips, candy, etc. Older children can help in the back by filling nacho boats and assembling burgers.
NO ONE under 18 is allowed to handle money – per NISD policy.
Here is a list of duties that you can expect by working concessions. ALL concession volunteers should arrive by 4:30pm.
